hong kong... i'm in hong kong right now at a small cybercafe typing this out, here for a vacation and too visit an old friend, the stay has been nice, its been great seeing an old friend and catching up, always is good to see someone from jis.. haven't been to this country in almost 8 years and it sure has changed, i love travelling and experiencing culture first hand, whether it be on the train, in a restaurant where your seated next to someone you don't know, or just going around and seeing the different faces and personalities that around, i think i should've been an anthropologist but i don't think i'm social enough for that.. anyway, just been doing some shopping for friends and family, and seeing some of the sights that i haven't seen in awhile, and hanging out with my friend, i wish sometimes that i had come with someone cuz right now hong kong is happening, as i'm typing right now, there are people outside dressed up in pink panther suits, and other wild costumes as the IRB rugby 7's is being held here so so many foreigners (i don't even know if i spelled that right!) have come down to support their team, watch the games, and have a good time, its great seeing these people interact, and have a good time, i truly believe that sports is the universal language and is something that can always unite and bring out the best in every person.. but that's just my opinion, well i guess thats it, as my trip winds down (leaving tomorrow) so is this entry, back to work on monday and back to trying to find my life and where i should be and what i should be doing... i love work so much!
last words... i guess i've learned a lot from this trip, well maybe not something that i didn't know before but perhaps its deepened my understanding and thought... i'll put it this way, in my own twisted and strangely insightful (if you can call it that) way.. life to me is just a series of risks and chances, whether it be in your career, love, or anything in general.. you gotta take that risk and chance but be prepared for the consequences that follow, in most cases the chances and risks you take won't come out as you want them to, but when they do then there is nothing that can compare to that feeling.. i guess its just a matter of surviving through all the risks and chances and eventually, maybe, you'll strike gold with your gamble (at least we all hope)
movies & the guy code... watched a couple of movies this weekend that were quite solid, watched "Hitch" saturday night and it was quite good, entertaining, funny at moments and just one of those feel good movies for guys at least, kevin james is hilarious and really should be in more movies, i'd love to see him and ray romano in a movie! then sunday i watched "In Good Company", topher grace is pretty funny too and scarlett johanson is hot! another pretty good movie and another one of those feel good movies, i guess i can relate to Carter (Topher Grace) where he wants his life to mean something, a good career and having lots of money means absolutely nothing if your life has no meaning..
i'm a huge Sports Guy (Bill Simmons from Espn.com page 2)fan and always find myself cracking up out loud whenever i read his articles, he came up with an interesting article as a response to emails he gets from his readers (i think i'm guna email him one of these days) anyway, i don't know if girls have their own code but guys definetly have a code, and i think Bill does a good job in articulating this code.. by the way he's also got a great explanation for nirvana, pearl jam, and smashing pumpkins, great analysis of the whole beginning of the grunge era and stuff
Q: Wait, wasn't Brandon able to steal Dylan's girlfriend without violating the Guy Code because Dylan had already scored with Brandon's sister? – Tim R., San Fran
SG: Depends on how you define the Code of Guys. I feel like there are 14 levels in all, and I would stagger them like this:
RELATIVELY HARMLESS: Level 1: Erasing your roommate's season-in-progress on a video game memory card to start your own season. Level 2: Taunting someone right after his team suffers a painful loss. Level 3: Intentionally ruining someone's gambling karma at a blackjack table. Level 4: Stealing porn from someone else's stash and not telling him.
RELATIVELY HARMFUL: Level 5: Giving out your buddy's personal information while drunk to his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend, then apologizing the next day by saying, "Dude, I didn't know what I was saying, I was hammered." Level 6: Stealing money from a buddy without telling him.
HARMFUL: Level 7: Hooking up with/dating a buddy's sister. Level 8: Hooking up with/dating a buddy's ex-girlfriend or ex-wife.
VICIOUS:
Level 9: Framing a buddy for some sort of crime. Level 10: Stealing a buddy's girlfriend or wife. Level 11: Hooking up with a buddy's daughter.
UNFORGIVABLE:
Level 12: Hooking up with a buddy's mom. Level 13: Hooking up with a buddy's underaged daughter, then explaining, "I thought she was 18!" Level 14: Re-enacting the scene with Zed and the Gimp from "Pulp Fiction," only with your buddy playing the role of Marcellus Wallace.
